Exciting final goes to the golden hoop

On August 14 Bishop Monkton Croquet Club hosted the third Yorkshire Federation Restricted Doubles Tournament.
Twenty players from four clubs competed for the trophy. The weather certainly wasn’t kind and players battled the elements to complete their matches.
After four games of block play the semi-final line up was established. Last year’s champions Anne Walker and Trevor Wood (Ripon) were defeated by Sue and Roger I’Anson ( Ripon) whilst the second semi-final resulted in a closely fought match between Richard Field and Izzy Poyntz (Bishop Monkton) who secured a win on the golden hoop against Penny and Ken Clark (Ben Rhydding).
The final was equally exciting and the spectators were entertained by a thrilling match where the I’Anson pairing came from behind to beat Richard Field and Izzy Poyntz at hoop 13.
The tournament was managed by Andrea Widdison and David Widdison acted as referee.

Another final goes to the golden hoop

Michael Franklin receives his cup from Andrea Widdison.

The third Yorkshire  Federation C-Level singles tournament was held at Bishop Monkton on July 30.. There were many exciting close matches, none more so than the final where Michael Franklin of Ripon beat last year’s winner Izzy Poyntz on the golden hoop.

Ann Hales of Bishop Monkton Croquet Club came third and the Plate event was won by Sue I’Anson of Ripon Spa Croquet Club..

The weather was very kind. During lunch there was a thunderstorm and as the final hoop of the day was run the thunder started again, however thankfully, while play was in progress there was sunshine and lovely warm temperatures.

The tournament was managed by Andrea Widdison with  David Widdison as the tournament referee.
