Margaret Lodge at Buckingham Palace

'It was a day I will never forget'

A lovely outfit for her big day.

Margaret's well-deserved medal

Margaret writes about her big day ....

'I was delighted to receive an Invitation, for myself and guest, to attend the Queen’s Garden Party at Buckingham Palace. My daughter, Jane, was more than happy to accompany me.

We had an excellent train journey from York to London. On reaching Kings Cross we hailed a taxi to Buckingham Palace, where we joined a large queue of people waiting to be admitted into the Palace. As we entered the Palace Gardens the huge crowd of guests was quite daunting. However we joined the throng and got a good position to see everything.

At 4pm the National Anthem announced the arrival of the Queen who wore a beautiful pink outfit, and members of the royal family, Prince Harry, Princess Eugene, Princess Beatrice, Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and the Duke of Kent. The Gentleman of Arms then formed lanes for
the Queen and the Royal Family to move through the guests.

We made our way to the tea tent where we were treated to a delicious afternoon tea, dainty sandwiches and cakes and a most welcome cup of tea.

By now the weather had turned really wet and cold, but we made the best of it and explored some of the gardens.

A military band was playing all afternoon which added to the atmosphere.

Time to leave, wet and cold we made our way out of the gardens through the palace where we admired the paintings in the long gallery.

We really enjoyed the afternoon and I feel very honoured and privileged   to be invited.A day I will never forget'.
