For 'exceptional dedication to the Riding for the Disabled Association'

Barbara Birchall receives special award from Princess Anne

Barbara Birchall was presented with the Riding for the Disabled President's Award for 'exceptional dedication to RDA' by the  Princess Royal when she visited a RDA group at Wellburn Hall School.

Barbara started with RDA 45 years ago at Lapworth, Warwickshire as a helper and soon became a group instructor.

On moving to Yorkshire she became a Group Instructor at Markington where she helped for 25 years. Whilst still at Markington she became Regional Instructor for Yorkshire and Cleveland, a role she filled for 15 years.

She then acted as Dressage Co-ordinator for the Region taking many riders to the Dressage National Championships at Hartbury. She represented the Region on the National RDA Dressage Committee for 23 years. during which time she was and is also District Commissioner for York and Ainsty North Branch of the Pony Club.
